Parlovr

Parlovr-Parlovr(2008)

Parlovr is a sloppy pop band from Montreal, Canada consisting of Alex Cooper, Louis David Jackson and Jeremy Maccuish. It formed sometime between 2006-2007 with Alex and Louis writing all sorts of weird punk soul rock epic songs together in a small loft called 'the parlour'. They enlisted Jeremy and thereafter recorded and independently released a self-titled album in late 2008. It was subsequently released by Dine Alone in 2010. Known for their spastically energetic hair-flailing live show, they've toured around Canada, USA, Europe and China (really!) and have had fun opening up for Franz Ferdinand, Arctic Monkeys, Handsome Furs, We Are Wolves and Marnie Stern, among others. They have also played festivals like Pop Montreal, Osheaga, CMJ, SXSW, CMW, NXNE and FME. A 4-song EP called 'Hell/heaven/Big/Love' is their newest release (again, put out on Dine Alone Records) and the band is entering the studio again for a follow-up to their full-length.

Vilijam S. Barouz - GRADOVI CRVENE NOĆI

Vilijam S. Barouz
GRADOVI CRVENE NOĆI
Izdavac: Fabrika knjiga, 2010

The Man Who Had His Hair Cut Short(1965)

-Vrh belgijanske kinematografije,bergmanovski elementi,cista psihologija...

A schoolteacher falls for one of his young students. She grows to become a famous actress, while he begins to lose his sanity.

Received with a combination of bewilderment and outright derision upon its initial release, André Delvaux’s first feature film has undergone a critical reevaluation over the years and is now regarded as one of the seminal works of Belgian cinema. Adapted from a novel by Flemish writer Johan Daisne, this is a story about Govert Miereveld (Senne Rouffaer), a lawyer from a small Flemish town who also teaches in a school for girls. He harbors a secret love for one of his young students, Fran (Beata Tyszkiewicz), whom he loses touch with after her graduation. Some time later, Miereveld has to attend an autopsy, and the shock of the experience deeply affects his mental balance. He finds out — or he believes so — that Fran has become a popular singer. He arranges to meet her to finally reveal his feelings. The film is decidedly ambiguous about the tragic denouement that follows, suggesting that it might be a figment of the protagonist’s disturbed mind

Vilijam Barouz - Džanki

Autor: Vilijam S. Barouz
Izdavač: Rende
Godina izdavanja: 2010
Prevod: Nenad Zupac

Doup nije zabava.

SOARS is a reflection and by-product of Eastern Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley; a fertile creative pool over the past decade, spawning a healthy number of noise/experimental/punk artists, bands, and venues (Brother JT, Pearls & Brass, etc). With NYC and Philadelphia in close proximity, it's all too common for the artist-as-drone to flee one's breeding grounds, leaving the assiduous worker-bees to tend the hive.

Gareth Liddiard - Strange Tourist (2010)
(Shock)
Gareth Liddiard is a novelist who just doesn't know it yet; a writer for whom landscapes, both internal and external, provide the grit and soul for a kind of visceral storytelling that absolutely no one else is matching at the moment.
In his work with the band the Drones, Liddiard has made album after album of rugged, demanding, powerful rock'n'roll, which has already won one Australian Music Prize and could easily have won three. Their songs leave an indelible impression on you physically, particularly live, where razor-like incursions and deep, rumbling propulsion can be flipped into stark and tender chasms and lonely peaks of anguish or clarity.
Just as importantly, those songs leave ineradicable emotional and intellectual imprints. Liddiard's characters and their world are invoked with such eye for nuance and detail – from the rundown suburbs on the city fringes to the brutal bush of colonial Tasmania; from a man who "though downwind of him trails a fog of alcohol/he fails to do his best to be indifferent all the same" to a mother much too needy and too jealous of a girlfriend "all eyelashes and bones" – that you feel covered in the tangy sweat of fear or frozen in the same miasma of indecision and enervation as his protagonists.

Alexander Hacke & Danielle de Picciotto

Alexander Hacke & Danielle de Picciotto
- Hitman's Heel (2011)

Alexander Hacke – was born in the proletarian district of Berlin Neukölln. A musician from the start, he joined Einstürzende Neubauten in 1980 at the tender age of 14, besides playing in numerous influential underground-groups and writing, recording, releasing and performing music under the pseudonym Alexander von Borsig. Throughout the eighties and up until today he not only collaborates with countless artists of various genres but also continues to produce records and score music for theater, feature and documentary movies.
In 1986 he teamed up with the Australian band Crime And The City Solution, then recorded and toured with Italian pop-icon Gianna Naninni, formed the alternative country-music outfit Jever Mountain Boys, improvised with Can-drummer Jaki Liebezeit for Japanese avantgarde-star Phew and produced records for the likes of Miranda Sex Garden, French anarchist songwriter Fred Alpi or Berlin post-punk characters Mutter.
In 2005 he starred as the main protagonist in Fatih Akin’s movie “Crossing the Bridge –the sound of Istanbul” and contributed music for the directors award-winning feature “Head On”.

Peggy Sue

Peggy Sue-Fossils and Other Phantoms-(2010)

Coming from the same school of nu-folk/soul artists such as Adele, Kate Nash and Laura Marling, Peggy Sue have a lot to live up to. Formerly known as ‘Peggy Sue and The Pirates, a more quirkier name you have to agree, the band have been around the scene for a few years now. Doing shows and releasing singles and EPs just as a double act. The two lead female vocalists, Rosa and Katy, both sing harmoniously with each other and create a very deep and soulful presence. Dark and haunting at times but also remain quite pastiche in their approach. Now joined by drummer, Olly, and also the inclusion of electric guitars has certainly made this band a more complete creative force. It’s been 3 years since this writer has waited for an album release from Peggy Sue, I just hope it lives up to my expectations.

Gabby Young And Other Animals

Gabby Young And Other Animals
- We're All In This Together (2010)

Gabby Young and Other Animals are an eccentric eight piece British pop band, bringing together gypsy, folk, rock and jazz.[1] Onetaste website described the music as having "Incredible soaring vocals, heart-breaking lyrics with wild cabaret style to lose yourself in".[2] The band is fronted by Gabby Young, and supported by the Other Animals using a wide range of instruments, most notably trumpet, trombone, piano and clarinet.Gabby Young is a trained opera singer.

Ari Up of the Slits obituary

The singer, born Arianna Forster, passed away yesterday (20 October) after a "serious illness".

Ari Up (far right) with the Slits in 1979
The singer Ari Up, who has died after an unspecified illness aged 48, was the idiosyncratic frontwoman of the Slits, the British punk band formed in 1976. With her bird's-nest hair, gutsy attitude and wardrobe from hell, along with the band's ferocious sound, Ari confounded her audiences. The Slits fused punk with another rebel music – reggae – to create an original sound that transcended their musical limitations.

Jane Birkin et Serge Gainsbourg

Jane Birkin et Serge Gainsbourg [1969]
[Light In The Attic Reissue,2010]

Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin can be viewed as everything from lecherous slob and naive posh tart to the cult couple of the late 20th century. Neither of these extremes should obscure his musical experimentation and her role as muse and collaborator. While Histoire De Melody Nelson is the best album bearing either of their names, Jane Birkin/Serge Gainsbourg is unbridled, sophisticated fun and has deservedly come to be called after its most important song, “Je T’Aime…Mon Non Plus”, a genuine pop classic and one of the best 45s ever released.

Second Language is beside itself with glee to announce the release of the greatly-anticipated second album by Angèle David-Guillou, aka Klima. A tour-de-force of live instrumentation and experimentation in service of never less than accessible song craft, Serenades & Serinettes is undeniable evidence of a unique and bewitching talent, fearlessly pushing the musical envelope. The album also features guest contributions from Glen Johnson and Jerome Tcherneyan (of Piano Magic) and David Sheppard and Keiron Phelan (Phelan Sheppard/State River Widening). Piano Magic fans will be keen to note the sublime cover of the group's 1998 single, 'French Mittens.'

This release will be available on CD and by download. ‘LIVE 1989′ collects the fifth and sixth of The Wedding Present’s infamous ‘live tapes’; cassettes that the band sold at gigs and through their fanzine in the late 80s. The recordings were unavailable anywhere else. Fans eagerly collected them and they became very rare.

"Land and Fixed" [Captured Tracks,2010]

Mike Sniper never meant to be one of Brooklyn’s ‘most mysterious musicians’. Things just ended up that way, as the singer/multi-instrumentalist released a steady stream of limited singles and EPs on such reputable indie labels as Sacred Bones, HoZac and Woodsist. Not to mention’s Sniper’s own Captured Tracks imprint—a carefully-curated roster that’s grown as quickly as Blank Dogs itself, thanks to such buzz-stirring releases as Dum Dum Girls’ debut EP and recent records by Beach Fossils, Wild Nothing and Minks.

Wild Nothing's 2010 album "Gemini".

Innocent love,
I need someone somewhere
I need some way to come down
I need some way to make things right

We're not happy 'til we're running away
Clouds in your eyes
With nothing but the foggiest day

One of a kind
I need to keep you here
I need to picture you still
I need to clear the fog

We're not happy 'til we're running away
Clouds in your eyes
And nothing but the foggiest day

Ram John Holder

Ram John Holder - Black London Blues [Beacon, 1969]

Ram John Holder (born 1934, Guyana) is a British actor. He began his performing career as a folk singer in New York. In 1962 he came to London and worked with Pearl Connor's Negro Theatre Workshop initially as a musician, and later as an actor. His theatre career saw him perform on the major stages in London such as the Royal National Theatre, the Donmar Warehouse and Bristol Old Vic.
The blues, big in white suburbs like Richmond and Ealing, were rarely used to express black experience in Britain. Holder's ten trenchant short stories, including "Notting Hill Eviction", reflected life as he had lived it in the years when, after decades of economic depression, world war and austerity, thousands of people, black and white, were trapped in slum conditions while prosperity grew around them: "Regent Street is out of bounds/Unless you have a hundred pounds". Though musically mainstream - electric Chicago with James Brown seasoning - Holder's songs fixed the picture of a crucial part of British social history as evocatively and potently as Roger Mayne's North Kensington photographs.

Possessed By Paul James

Possessed By Paul James-Feed the Family
[ Hillgrass Bluebilly Records 2010]

Possessed By Paul James is one Mr. Konrad Wert, currently living in Texas but hailing from home state of Florida. His past two albums, Possessed By Paul James and Cold and Blind, coupled with his live shows have garnered him a cult . That said, the albums have also fallen into the “love ‘em or hate ‘em” category.
Konrad is best understood if you’ve seen him live, that’s an undeniable fact, but it’s become less of a requirement with each album, and now with Feed The Family I think he’s managed to make an album accessible enough that the live show isn’t a requirement for those with a slightly more confined musical palate. Feed the Family captures everything that makes Possessed By Paul James great without spending too much time in that challenging area that requires knowing him live to be able to truly “get it”.

La moustache

"What would you think if I shaved my moustache?" asks Marc (Vincent Lindon) of his wife, Agnès (Emmanuelle Devos), one fateful night as they prepare to visit friends for dinner. She's never seen him without it, but while she goes to do some last-minute shopping, he impulsively shaves the moustache off. Thus begins a tragic odyssey that leads Marc to question every relationship in his life, and even his own identity. Marc's journey into darkness begins when Agnès returns home. At first, he playfully tries to conceal what he's done. When he finally reveals his bare face to her, with a flourish, her reaction is...nonexistent. She baffles him by appearing not to notice the change.

Things only get worse for Marc, as no one at his job remembers him having a moustache either, and before long, he discovers that there are other details of his life that only he remembers. The Moustache marks the directorial debut of Emmanuel Carrère, who adapted his own novel with Jérôme Beaujour (She's One of Us). The film was shown as part of The Film Society of Lincoln Center's 2006 Rendez-Vous with French Cinema.

Flying Horseman

Flying Horseman - Wild Eyes [2010 Conspiracy Records]

Lots of bands can 'rock' live, but rare is the band who can create a mood, evoke emotions, make standing in a smoky club feel like standing knee deep in the mud, watching the black night sky, thinking back over your life. The music of Flying Horseman is like that, delivered with such fervor, so intimate and personal, and with such brutal musical intensity, that the songs take on the gravity and urgency of sonic directives from some higher power.

Handsome Furs u Beogradu!!!

Kulturni Centar Grad,02.12.2010
The Montreal-based duo Handsome Furs formed in 2005 around the talents of Vancouver transplants Dan Boeckner (frontman of Wolf Parade) and Alexei Perry. The husband-and-wife team released the atmospheric Plague Park in 2007, utilizing drum machines and world-weary melodies to distinguish the band's debut from Wolf Parade's own output. Plague Park earned accolades for its electronic twist on indie rock, with Rolling Stone likening the band to "a dingy version of the Cure rocking some hipster dive bar," and the growing buzz prompted Handsome Furs' return to the studio in late 2007. Despite initially planning to cut an EP, the inspired duo recorded an entire album instead, drawing upon its recent Eastern European tour for lyrical cues. The resulting Face Control was issued in March 2009.

Women
Public Strain [Jagjaguwar,2010]

At first listen, Public Strain is impenetrably cold. But deep down, beneath the blizzard of noise and hiss, something's burning.
In places claustrophobic, conjuring walking dreams of sexual anguish and general decay, elsewhere soaring with vintage guitar tones and vocal melodies or collapsing into swirling, mesmerizing swells, "Public Strain" cycles through insomnia, paranoia, resignation and euphoria, to capture a band with an undeniable voice coming into full awareness of their craft.

John Lennon - Celebration 70th Birthday

John Winston Ono Lennon, MBE (9 October 1940 – 8 December 1980) was an English singer-songwriter who rose to worldwide fame as one of the founding members of The Beatles and, with Paul McCartney, formed one of the most successful songwriting partnerships of the 20th century.
Born and raised in Liverpool, Lennon became involved in the skiffle craze as a teenager, his first band, The Quarrymen, evolving into The Beatles in 1960. As the group began to undergo the disintegration that led to their break-up towards the end of that decade, Lennon launched a solo career that would span the next, punctuated by critically acclaimed albums, including John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band and Imagine, and iconic songs such as "Give Peace a Chance" and "Imagine".

Symbol (2009)

A Japanese man wakes up alone in a brightly illuminated white room with no windows or doors. When he presses a mysteriously phallic protuberance that appears on one wall, a pink toothbrush materializes from nowhere, clattering to the floor and setting in motion a genuinely bizarre chain of events. Soon the imprisoned man is engaged in absurd and hilarious attempts to escape the gleaming room, releasing random objects from the walls, creating a life sized mouse trap game in which a rope, a toilet plunger and an earthenware jug full of sushi might just be the keys to his escape. Meanwhile, in a dusty town, a green masked Mexican wrestler known as Escargot Man prepares for an important match. His family gathers around him, worried about his seeming impassivity before battle.
