Monogrenade formed in 2008. Jean-Michel had spent 2 years playing guitar for the band Winter Gloves, but decided that he needed a different outlet for his own ideas. Writing all the songs as a unit, Monogrenade, put out an 8-song EP in June 2008 that was warmly received by critics and listeners. Carefully produced, lively, and well-arranged... Québec music industry take note: this is how modern pop is done, wrote Nightlife magazine. Released independently, the EP was also made available in digital form via Toronto’s Paper Bag Records. A stunning stop-motion video was filmed for the song Ce Soir by Mathieu’s brother Christophe, and to date has logged over 175 000 views. .... In the spring of 2010, the group signed a deal with Bonsound Records. Christophe’s video and their participation in last year’s Francouvertes event kept the buzz going. After touring the province, they closed out the summer on a high note with an intimate concert in front a smitten crowd at the international FrancoFolies festival. A strong showing at the M for Montréal showcase floored the French delegation and plans to tour France are now in the works.
