The Universal Sigh, a free newspaper created by Radiohead to coincide with the physical release of their album 'The King of Limbs', is being distributed in locations around the world today and tomorrow.
The Universal Sigh, copies of which Thom Yorke himself handed out in London today (March 28).
In the UK, the paper was launched at noon today in three special events in London, Manchester and Glasgow. It will be available for the rest of today and tomorrow in those cities, and in 56 others across Europe, Australia, Scandinavia, Canada and the US. Full details of locations can be found at the website theuniversalsigh.com, where photographs of readers with the newspaper are also being posted. According to the website, “Our dedicated teams of newspaper delivery people will be handing out copies of The Universal Sigh to anyone who wants one, until we run out!”
The first copies of the newspaper were released in New Zealand, where the website Rip It Up has posted a pdf version online. The paper features writing by Robert McFarlane, whose books include Mountains of the Mind and The Wild Places, and Jay Griffiths, whose latest book, A Love Letter from a Stray Moon, is a fictionalised portrait of Frida Kahlo.
In May, the band will also be releasing a “newspaper album” version of The King of Limbs. Priced at £30, it will feature a different newspaper to the one currently being handed out to fans, as well as a CD, two vinyl records, and a number of artworks.
