Jagjaguwar Welcomes Newest Signee – Unknown Mortal Orchestra
The glammed-up, psychedelic, soulful, punked-out Unknown Mortal
Orchestra is the brainchild of Oregon (via New Zealand) resident Ruban
Nielson, a former Mint Chicks guitarist who mentions Captain Beefheart,
Sly Stone, and RZA in the same breath. UMO’s self-titled debut
full-length sounds like funkier Ween tackling Elephant 6, blending New
Age ’70s recording techniques with that recent lava lamp/black-lit
bedroom aesthetic (see Ariel Pink). It makes sense Nielson and his live
band’s playing shows with Fat Possum labelmates Smith Westerns, sure. At
the same time, you’ll think he might want to find a time machine and do
a gig or two with Syd Barrett, the Kinks, or some private-press loner
dude destined to be reissued and distributed via Forced Exposure. The
music’s playful, but accomplished; familiar, but ambitiously charting
its own collaged course.

Moonrise Kingdom (Wes Anderson, 2012)
“Moonrise Kingdom” sees Wes Anderson return to live-action filmmaking after a break of five years since the underwhelming “The Darjeeling Limited.” Thankfully, Anderson’s new picture is a return to form and his best film since “The Royal Tenenbaums.”
In his career, which now spans 10 years, Wes Anderson has managed to create a distinct style, which is shared in all of his films, and “Moonrise Kingdom” perfectly demonstrates Anderson’s recognizable visual and thematic blueprint. Like almost all of his films, “Moonrise Kingdom” features a vibrant color palette, a dysfunctional family and a hilarious show-stealing performance from Bill Murray.
The cast, which Anderson has assembled, is probably the most accomplished and diverse he has ever worked with, featuring Frances McDormand, Harvey Keitel and Tilda Swinton.

Bird – Shadows EP (2012)
After bumping in to each other at a local gig one evening, Adele and Sian bonded over their mutual love for artists such as Leonard Cohen, Kate Bush, The Cocteau Twins, Warpaint, and Fleetwood Mac. The girls decided to swap numbers and soon after songwriter Adele and drummer Alexis invited Sian along for a 'jam' where they realized together they had something very special to give.
Mumford & Sons – Babel (2012)

went platinum four times in the UK, three times in Australia and twice
in the United States, Babel captures the ferocious live energy of the
four-piece, and is not without its tender moments.
Written in Nashville, south London and Somerset, several songs on
Babel were also recorded live. "When you're in a room with headphones
and microphones and no one else, you play it quite differently to how
you play it live", says Marcus Mumford, the band's lead vocalist,
drummer and guitarist. Alongside band mates Ben Lovett (keys, accordion, drums), Ted Dwane (string bass, drums, guitar) and Winston Marshall (banjo, dobro, guitar), Mumford & Sons have spent the best part of the last three years touring feverishly, and show no signs of slowing down.

The band, active in the 1980s and early 90s, have fallen out of fashion in the last two decades, and their name now means little to most people under the age of 30 – but, as Simon Reynolds argues in his accompanying notes for the OLI release, it would be inaccurate to describe them as a “lost” or overlooked band. Despite being considered the equals of My Bloody Valentine and the Pixies at the time, A.R. Kane – at its core a duo comprising Alex Ayuli and Rudy Tambala – have been somewhat written out of history.

A Band of Buriers – Filth (2012)
A Band Of Buriers are an alternative folk band with a rare blend of hypnotic spoken word and haunting melodies. The combination of folk, classical arrangements and vocal harmonies with Beatnik-esque spoken word and poetry creates a sound that is likened as much to Leonard Cohen or Nick Cave as it is Allan Ginsberg or Saul Williams. Their intimate live performance is now firmly cemented as one of the finest shows to catch on the UK folk circuit.

Hayden Calnin – City EP (2012)
Twenty two year old singer songwriter and producer Hayden Calnin has be spending the past few months knuckled down in his home studio recording his debut EP ‘City’ that was released on July 20th.Calnin’s music described as progressive folk, comparable to Bon Iver and James Blake, Calnin’s self-produced, ‘City’ is a musical documentation of his life experiences after leaving his hometown in Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula to live in inner city Melbourne. Showcasing intricate layers of ‘folktronic’ production, honest storytelling and vocals that swing between tip toeing falsettos and warm, husky tones, the EP features Hayden’s latest single, ‘For My Help’ and will be available digitally worldwide with limited physical copies available at shows.

Jason Molina – Autumn Bird Songs (2012)
...Najtuzniji album godine...Magnolia Electric Co.’s Jason Molina is on the mend from health issues, undergoing treatment in West Virginia despite a struggle to cover medical bills. His family launched a donation drive for Molina, the result of which, he says, “has been better than I could have ever imagined.”
In addition to funds collected by direct donation, 10% of proceeds from a new art book and record are going to the cause, as well. Titled From Black Sheep Boys To Bill Collectors, the hardcover collection features artwork by William Schaff, whose work we’ve seen covering albums by Okkervil River, Molina’s Songs: Ohia project, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, and others. Included is an introduction written by the Mountain Goats’ John Darnielle with other contributions penned by Will Sheff and Darren Jackson of Kid Dakota. Molina also recorded 8 solo songs specifically for the project a few years ago, which will arrive bundled with the book on 10″ vinyl as Autumn Bird Songs.
Bill Fay - Life Is People(2012)
...Najnezniji album godine...Bill Fay's two exquisite, early-1970s folk-jazz-rock albums – particularly 1971's Time of the Last Persecution – became cult artefacts decades later thanks to the enthusiastic patronage of some famous fans (notable among them Wilco's Jeff Tweedy – indeed, Fay covers Wilco on this album, and Tweedy sings on one song) and long-overdue reissues. A host of archive material and home demos have emerged recently, but Life Is People is Fay's first all-new studio album in 40 years. It's a more traditional affair than those classics (his new band doesn't quite match the rootsy, freewheeling swing of the early albums) but Fay is still in fine voice, singing stately, hymnal songs imbued with a kind of cosmic and religious rapture, sometimes spooky and awed, sometimes sun-through-the-clouds, everything's-gonna-be-OK hopeful. It's not without a few syrupy moments, and it would be a push to recommend it over the old records, but there are some fine songs here.

If that sounds like damning Bob Dylan with faint praise, rest assured this is one of the best discs you’ll hear by anyone this year, at any age. Rather, the point is made to marvel at the vitality of a man who’s been making albums for 50 years and still manages to be relevant.
Bob Dylan has led his fans, and the entire music community, on many journeys over a half century, even a few dead ends.
After a detour with 2009’s largely unsatisfying “Together Through Life,” the new “Tempest” continues the improbable late-career renaissance of America’s greatest living songwriter.
Chinese Take-Out (Sebastián Borensztein, 2011)
In Buenos Aires, the bitter and methodic Roberto is a lonely man and the owner of a hardware store. Roberto collects bizarre worldwide news in an album as a hobby and his acquaintance Mari has an unrequited love for him, but Roberto is always evasive. One day, Roberto sees a Chinese named Jun being expelled from a taxi while he is watching the landing of airplanes in the airport and he helps the man to stand up. Jun does not speak Spanish and shows a tattoo with an address on his arm. Roberto heads to the spot with Jun and discover that the place belonged to Jun's uncle that sold it three and half years ago. Roberto goes with Jun to the police station, to the China's embassy and to a Chinese neighborhood to seek out his uncle but it is a fruitless search. Roberto lodges Jun in his house and after a series of incidents, he finds a delivery boy to translate Jun and he learns the dramatic story of his life.Sep 11, 2012

Two Gallants – The Bloom and the Blight (2012)
...Najbolji do sada...It’s been awhile since we’ve heard from folk-punks Two Gallants, but the San Francisco duo have announced the imminent release of their fourth album. The Bloom And The Blight will be out September 4 on ATO Records.
Reportedly, Adam Stephens and Tyson Vogel hadn’t played together for three years before recording the new album. The Bloom And The Blight was produced by John Congleton (St. Vincent, the Walkmen, Explosions In The Sky), and it’s Two Gallants’ first record in five years.
Swans – The Seer (2012)
...Sjebano & Neodoljivo...In music, “lengthy” doesn’t necessarily equal “epic.” But in the case of The Seer, the 12th studio album from experimental post-punk act Swans, the two terms are basically interchangeable.
Michael Gira, the veteran band’s frontman and guiding visionary, told the Quietus this album “took 30 years to make,” and based on the album’s jaw-dropping length alone (clocking in at just under two full hours), it’s tempting to interpret that quote literally. But The Seer is equally ambitious from a sonic standpoint: blending disgruntled noise-rock, fragile acoustic balladry, terrifying post-rock grooves and strange experimentation—more or less every sound Swans have previously attempted over the past 30 years—into one of the year’s most divisive (and unique) listening experiences.
